Pay it Forward
Become a one-time or monthly donor and give back to your community while ensuring accessible, affordable play for all.
Since 2021, our mission has been to provide an accessible space to our community to play, gather, and make connections. Not only will a monthly donation to Glow Worm ensure that our space remains accessible to all by helping to offset our rising overhead expenses, but for every $50 we receive in donations, we will donate a one-month unlimited membership to a low income family. Let’s work together and pay it forward.
Donations are not tax deductible at this time. Donations are recorded as taxable income for our business.
We are working on obtaining 501c3 status for our donor program so that donations can be tax deductible in the future.
Your Questions: Answered
Q: Glow Worm is a for-profit business. Why are you asking for donations?
A: While donations are recorded as taxable income for our business, we are not seeking to make a profit off of our donors. Donations help us sustain our business and rising expenses while ensuring our space is still accessible for those who can’t afford to pay more. We will also use a significant portion of donations to provide monthly memberships to low-income families.
Q: Is Glow Worm seeking non-profit status?
A: We are in the process of creating a separate non-profit organization specifically to support our donor program so that your donations are tax deductible in the future. Glow Worm as a whole will likely not convert to a non-profit.
Q: How will we know when memberships are donated?
A: Once per month via email newsletter, we will announce how many memberships we were able to donate based on your generosity.
Q: Why doesn’t the business use its own profits instead of asking for donor money?
A: At this stage, Glow Worm is a break-even business (on a good day). Like most small businesses, we are not here because it’s profitable — we are here because we love what we do and that we are adding value to our community. Our hourly staff are paid a minimum of $15/hour + tips, our salaried staff are paid a living wage, and the owner does not collect a salary or wages on a regular basis. At this time, any and all operating profits are put back into the business to improve our space, support our offerings, and pay off debt.
Q: Can I make a one-time donation or do I have to make a monthly donation?
A: Either one is fine! Any amount, even $1 per month or a one-time $5 donation, helps us offset our overhead costs while keeping our services accessible for the average family.
